Zero percent is what Rotten Apples scored Tyler Perry's new movie Divorce in Black ....
0% ....
As my best friend shared the score during our conversation, it led us down a rabbit hole of curiosity. We now desired to know what other movies if any had scored a 0% after its premier. To our surprise, several movies including Jaws, Major Payne and other known films and actors had once fell in the Zero Category.
I began to wonder how the writers, producers, actors/actresses responded to such a score. How it affected their self-esteem or gift......and after some research it did not (or at least we did not know about it) .... each participant in previous films that had obtained a zero in the past continued making movies, showing up and using your gift no matter what the critics had spoken about them globally. They kept trying their hand, premiering films and standing tall as if it was indeed their best work even if others said otherwise and friends, that blessed me tremendously.
With lots of opinions in your office, across the internet, amongst your family and friends, about your gifts, interests and talents you have to remember that even a 0 from the critics, naysayers and internet judges you are right where you are supposed to be.
You could be one bad premiere to others away from your BIG BREAK and BOX OFFICE HIT!
While Tyler Perry Movies are indeed hit or miss in our eyes, Tyler recognizes that he has a niche. He has an audience of people by which he is called to that enjoy what he does and what he brings to television and film. I'm sure you all have heard his story, he put on a play that made no money, that nobody came to see that rendered him homeless in his early days ...... but he did NOT stop there and now he is a billionaire with his own film studio and grounds.
Have you considered throwing in the towel lately?
Have you found yourself listening more to the critics than you have the voice of GOD?
Have you come close to shifting gears to another industry or gift because the current one is not yielding you the outside results or accolades you desire today?
Can I urge you to try one more time this week?
To lean into that thing full speed, giving it your whole self-one more time because you want to rather than responding to the voice of those telling you NOT to?
What I know to be true is that when we lose or score low, we tend to quit.... Can I encourage you to let the low score allow you to leverage your gifts in a higher capacity?
I have never failed a test that did not prepare me for the next one ....and quite honestly the way we respond to the 0% is what gives us the space to gain the 100%.
Moral of the story .... Don't let a zero stop you!
I can imagine as the world is taking a major turn in politics today that even with the weight of being a powerful gifted black woman, Kamala Harris could have easily said I don't want to do this without JOE or I don't want to fight this fight because of what they are saying about me and the low scores associated with my running .... but she did not....
She is pulling up with confidence, saying let's DO this and that is the attitude I encourage you to show up with as well.
Life will Life but go ahead and let it life on your journey UP!!!
Lock in and let's finish this second half strong from the inside .... out!
In sisterhood and community,
R. Rene'
